"In the Hall of the Mountain King" is an instrumental song from the sixth scene of act 2 of the 1867 play Peer Gynt, composed by Edvard Grieg. It features a boy who fell in love with a girl but is not allowed to marry her, causing him to run away to the mountain and be kidnapped by the Troll monarch the Mountain King.

- One notable example is in the 1931 mystery-thriller M, which features the children serial-killer, Hans Beckert, whistling the tune.
- The melody was used for the songs "Petey's King of France" from Disney's 2004 direct-to-DVD animated film Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers, and "Hair Up" from DreamWorks' 2016 animated film Trolls.
- It appears in Steve Cutt's animated short film, Man. As the theme for it's titular main antagonist.
- The melody appears briefly in the main titles theme from the 1988 film Beetlejuice.
- It is also vocalized during the song "The Whole âBeing Deadâ Thing Pt. 2" from the film's stage musical adaptation.
- The melody has been constantly used by the English theme park Alton Towers, becoming something like the park's unofficial theme or anthem.
- The theme has also appeared various times in the animated series Trollhunters specially used in situations involving the character of Mrs. Nomura.
- The theme has also appeared in various teaser theatrical movie trailers of films like How the Grinch Stole Christmas or Corpse Bride.
- The melody is often whistled by Mal, Mike's evil alternate personality, throughout his appearances during Total Drama All-Stars.
- The song was used as a theme for the final boss battle in the 2023 video game Bramble: The Mountain King.
- The piece was heard in the three Little Einsteins episodes, Dragon Kite, A Little Einsteins Halloween, and The Secret Mystery Prize.
- The song was heard in the episode of the Animaniacs reboot, Here Comes Treble.
