"(They Long to Be) Close to You" is a 1970 song by the sibling duo The Carpenters in their album, Close to You.
The song would later appear as a recurring song in the animated television series The Simpsons, as a love song between Homer and Marge Simpson. While not originally villainous in both contexts, the song was performed by Homer's rival, Artie Ziff, in the same episode (Season 2, episode "The Way We Was") the song was first used. The song was performed by Jon Lovitz as Artie Ziff.
It would later reappeared in the second installment of DC Black, Joker: Folie à Deux. Which features Harley Quinn proposing her love to Arthur Fleck, who now goes by Joker. The song was performed by Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix as Harley Quinn and Joker, respectively.
Lyrics[]
Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Wa, close to you
Wa, close to you
Ha, close to you
La, close to you
